The roles of business relationships and B2B communication in selected European agri-food chains are analyzed. Using survey data from 1,026 farmers, food processors and retailers in two commodity sectors (meat and cereals) and five different EU countries (Germany, United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Poland), we test the empirical relevance of several theory-based determinants of relationship goodness. This is undertaken for the overall dataset and separately for different supply chain stages (farmer-processor versus the processor-retailer relationship) and for the individual countries. The estimation results, derived from structural equation modeling, suggest that the most important contributor to good business relationships is effective communication, with... |

Using a generalized gravity equation, this study tests for the Linder effect in differentiated agrifood product trade, i.e. as the demand structures of two countries become more similar, their trade intensity increases. Two proxies of demand structure, the Balassa index and the absolute value of the difference in per capita GDPs of trading partners, are used to capture the Linder effect. In addition, two measures of bilateral trade, the Grubel and Lloyed index, and the value of bilateral trade are used as the dependent variable. The study investigates the role of the Linder effect in explaining the trade of 37 differentiated agri-food and beverage products categorized into eight product groups: cereals; fresh fish; frozen fish; vegetables; fresh fruit;... |

Abstract Rocoto pepper (C. pubescens), is one of the domesticated species of the genus Capsicum in South America. Currently, its supply and demand are arising in national and global market. The aim of this study was to determine the optimal extraction timing of the seeds of C. pubescens according to physiological and physical seed qualities. Seed qualities measurement include seed weight, number of seeds per fruit, total emergence, emergence rate, mean emergence time, mean daily emergence, survival percentage, peak value and emergence value. Treatments were evaluated for comparison as follows: seed extraction ranged from 0 to 3 days after harvest (T1), and seed extraction ranged from 14 to 17 days after harvest (T2). T1 presented seeds with the best... |
